The Walker Cup Team of 1926 was played on June 2nd and 3rd June at St Andrews and famously, from Pollok’s point of view, included Andrew Jamieson Jnr.
The teams were:
Jamieson played with Cyril Tolley and lost to Bobby Jones and Watts Gunn in the Foursomes.
In the singles he beat the USA Captain, Robert Gardner..
Note: Halved matches at that time did not get the half point which is now the case.
Andrew Jamieson had in May beaten Jones in the quarter final of the Amateur Championship, a feat made even more impressive by the fact the Jones went on to win the Open and the US Open in the same year. (See Amateur Championship posting)
In 1930, Jones was to win the then “Grand Slam”, namely the Amateur Championship, US Amateur, the Open and US Open.
